A big thank you to all who attended our Winter 2015 HSL Info Expo last Thursday! The library team presented on a variety of technology topics, with our usual dose of fun and some holiday good cheer. Our newest segment, Apps & Gadgets, made a return appearance, and this time it was all about holiday shopping.

We always have far more content to share with our guests than time permits, so today we’re bringing you Apps & Gadgets: Holiday Shopping Bonus Edition! Compare prices and check inventory by scanning an item barcode or even taking a picture of an item with your phone. If you have an Apple watch, you can even voice search for products!

Find My Car


If you’re planning on hitting the mall this holiday season, there is a good chance you might forget where you parked. It happens to the best of us. With the Find My Car app, you can keep your wits about you in that sea of cars. Save your parking spot location and then find your car using its GPS location. You can even share your parking location with others, and figure out the fastest walking direction to your car!

TomTom Runner Cardio

This cardio GPS watch designed for runners comes from TomTom, known for their vehicle GPS navigation. The watch has a built-in heart rate monitor, eliminating the need for those pesky and uncomfortable chest straps. Amazon Fire Tablet

Amazon’s entry into the tablet market, the Fire, has 7-inch display and a wallet-friendly price at less than $50. For those who can’t afford a pricey iPad or Android device, the Fire is an affordable alternative. It is also perfect for those just looking to stream video, surf the web, or run apps available from Amazon’s app store.
